Local Governance

Since Pennsylvania has more local government than any other state, it is really no surprise that Pennsylvania’s local government is so confusing. A program entitled Is Pennsylvania's Local Government Confusing to You? was attended by 20 people at the Delaware Township Building. Those who attended learned about local government in Pennsylvania and received answers about Who Runs Local Government?, What Services Do They Provide? and What Do Counties Do?

In addition, a program on Municipal Comprehensive Plans was presented to twenty planning commission members and public participants. They were led in a discussion by Roy Borgfeld, Lehman Township Planning Commission Chairman, and Peter Wulfhorst, Community Development Agent, about what comprehensive plans are all about, how to prepare one and how they should be used in community development.

Effective Grant-Writing for
Non-Profit Organizations

A common misconception in the grant-writing process is that the actual proposal is a major component of the grant seeking process. However, to be successful, grant-writing is a process that entails careful planning, research and outreach as well as cultivating relationships.

Effective Grant-Writing for Non-Profit Organizations provided insight on how to get started: from developing a fund raising strategy, using research tools and methods to gathering necessary data and assembling it into a winning proposal. Over 35 non-profit board members, staff and agency personnel attended the program, which took place at the Settler’s Inn in Hawley.

Strategic Planning for Non-Profit Organizations

In today’s competitive environment, non-profit executives and boards need to take the time to actively manage their organizations. Strategic Planning for Non-Profit Organizations, conducted by Barbara Parkman of the University of Scranton Non-Profit Resource Center discussed how a good strategic plan is the foundation for effective management of any non-profit organization. Fifteen non-profit board members and staff attended the program, which took place at the Settler’s Inn in Hawley.

Barbara Parkman of the University of Scranton Non-Profit Resource Center spoke to twenty non-profit board members and staff who attended the program.
