Local Governance

A Basic Course for Zoning Officials was held at the Pike County Senior Center in Lords Valley. Over 25 zoning officers, zoning hearing board members and planning commissioners attended the course to learn about the PA Municipalities Planning Code and how it relates to zoning in the Commonwealth. In addition, attendees acquired the fundamental knowledge to effectively participate in the zoning process and learned how to conduct effective zoning hearings.


Effective Grant Writing for Non-Profit Organizations

A common misconception in the grant writing process is that the actual grant proposal is a major component of the grant seeking process. However, to be successful, grant writing is a process that entails careful planning, research and outreach as well as cultivating relationships.

Effective Grant Writing for Non-Profit Organizations provided insight on how to get started, from developing a fundraising strategy, using research tools and methods, to gathering necessary data and assembling it into a winning grant proposal.

Over 33 non-profit board members, staff and agency personnel attended the program, which was held September 25 at the Settler’s Inn in Hawley.

In today’s competitive environment, non-profit executives and boards need to take the time to actively manage their organizations as well as find and retain qualified, experienced board members and staff to function effectively and grow.

Strategic Planning/Board Development for Non-Profit Organizations discussed how a good strategic plan is a foundation for effective management and how to make board development a routine part of an organization’s procedures and practices.

Over 70 non-profit board members, staff and agency personnel attended the program, which took place March 28 at the Settler’s Inn in Hawley.


Volunteer Management for Non-Profit Organizations

Most agencies and organizations could not operate effectively without the use of volunteers. Besides funding, they are our most important asset. However, how do you recruit, retain and recognize the people who come to your organization to volunteer?

Volunteer Management for Non-Profit Organizations provided insight on how to make the most of your volunteers’ efforts by learning how to best utilize their skills and making the experience a rewarding one for you and for them.

Over 35 non-profit board members, staff and agency personnel attended the program, which took place June 20 at the Settler’s Inn in Hawley.
