Local Governance

Extension Community Affairs Specialist Stanford Lembeck presented, Is Local Government Confusing to You? at the Wallenpaupack High School (March 27) and Delaware Township Building (March 28). Over 45 citizens were provided answers to the following questions: Who runs local government? What services do local governments provide? Where do my tax dollars go? What do counties do?

Peter Wulfhorst presented an Overview of Local Government in Pennsylvania to Jason Griffith's Government class at the Delaware Valley High School.

Local planning consultant Tom Shepstone provided 15 elected officials, citizen planners and the public an understanding of how to achieve community character through site plan review at Signs, Lights, Trees – What You Should Know in Reviewing Site Plans on September 28 at the Delaware Township Building. Tom discussed legal authority for site plan review, a review of site design principles and using incentives. In addition, attendees participated in two exercises.

Effective Grant Writing for Non-Profit Organizations

A common misconception in the grant writing process is that the actual grant proposal is a major component of the grant seeking process. However, to be successful, grant writing is a process that entails careful planning, research and outreach as well as cultivating relationships.

Effective Grant Writing for Non-Profit Organizations, conducted by Extension Community Development Agents Joann Kowalski and Peter Wulfhorst, provided insight on how to get started: from developing a fundraising strategy, using research tools and methods, to gathering necessary data and assembling it into a winning grant proposal.

Over 40 non-profit board members, staff and agency personnel attended the program, which was held September 26 at the Settler's Inn in Hawley.
