Public Value StatementsCessation Adults & Teens - Tobacco use is the single most preventable cause of death. Individuals who participate in a tobacco cessation class are more likely to increase their success rate. This results in immediate and long term health benefits to the individuals as well as helping to reduce Pennsylvania's annual public health care cost of $5 billion dollars. Tobacco
Prevention Programs - Each day, according to the CDC, over 6,000 ten
and eleven year olds try their first cigarette, with over half becoming
addicted to tobacco by age 14. Youth who participate in Tobacco Prevention
Programs gain knowledge of the dangers of tobacco use and second hand
smoke exposure. This participation results in youth choosing to live a
tobacco free lifestyle, which in turn leads to a healthier and longer
life expectancy and less of a medical burden on society. Clean Indoor Air - Employees who work in a Smoke-Free Workplace are more likely to decrease their risk of heart, lung and circulatory disease while maintaining higher morale and productivity and lowering employee insurance costs for the businesses.
