Clubs

Animal Club - meets at the Pike County Administration Building. The next meeting is scheduled for July 28, from 4:30 PM - 5:30 PM.


 

Rough Riders Horse Club meets at the Pocono Ranch Land stables.


Pumpkin Patch Kids meets in the Bushkill area. The next meeting is scheduled to be held June 23, from 5:30 PM – 6:30 PM at the Smith house.

Pike County Teen Council Meeting will be at 5:00 PM, August 18, in the Basement Conference Room of the Pike County Administration Building. Registration is required.


We’re Together in 2002 meets in the Greeley Area every Wednesday from 4 PM – 6 PM.

Community Counts - will be meeting at Remembrance Park every Monday from 9 - 11 AM until futher notice.

4-H State Achievement Days

4-H State Achievement Days is being held July 29, 30, & 31, 2003, at the Penn State University Park Campus. Penn State 4-H Achievement Days is a competitive and educational three-day program sponsored each year by The Pennsylvania State University Cooperative Extension. This annual event is held to demonstrate achievement of 4-H members and provide recognition of their accomplishments. State activities are specifically designed for 4-H members to have an opportunity to:

  • demonstrate knowledge and skills in selected subjects
  • receive recognition
  • become acquainted with 4-H members and adults from across the Commonwealth
  • become better acquainted with The Pennsylvania State University

Contests include:

  Avian Bowl Food & Nutrition
  Hippology Poster Art
  Presentations Public Speaking
  Rabbit/Cavy Small Animal Essay
  Textile Science Horse Bowl
  Horse Judging, Jr. & Sr. Horticulture
  Orienteering Physical Fitness
  Canine Super Bowl  
Registrations must be postmarked by July 8. To be eligible to attend Penn State 4-H Achievement Days, delegates must have passed their 13th birthday and must not have passed their 19th birthday on January 1, 2003.

4-H Presentation Night
Members of the We’re 2gether in 2003 and the 4-H Animal Club shared information and art work on a variety of topics including: birds, greyhound rescue and animals from around the world at the 4-H Presentation Night, held May 29.

**Participants did an excellent job sharing information with viewers and were awarded ribbons for their efforts based on the Danish system.
Ag Progress Days 4-H Equine Skillathon - August 21, 2003, Rock Springs, PA.
There are two divisions:
Division 1 (Horseless)
Division 2 (with Horse)
There are three age categories for each division (4-H age as of 1/1/03):
8 - 11 years old,
12 - 14 years old,
15 – 18 years old.
The entry fee is $10.00 (nonrefundable)/person. For more information or to register, please contact the Extension Office. Deadline to register is August 11, 2003.


4-H Reining & Basic Skills Clinic – July 23, 2003 at the Penn State Ag Arena.
This clinic will emphasize basic skill development of horses and riders to prepare for reining. These methods will also be helpful to develop horsemanship skills for 4-H
horse club members, regardless of their discipline. Clinic fees:
$10.00 for 4-H members bringing horses;
$20.00 others with horses.
Clinic schedule:
1 - 5 PM early arrivals, individual work;
5 PM - ????? individual and group work.

Late arrivals are accepted until 6 PM. Please indicate arrival time when you register.
Verification of current rabies vaccination and current negative EIA status is required for all horses.

Pre-registration is required before July 16!!! To register, please contact the Extension Office.


Fifth Annual Pennsylvania State 4-H Model Horse Show

Saturday, October 25, 2003, 10 A.M. at the Small Arena, State Farm Show Complex, Harrisburg. The entry fee is $15.00 which allows each exhibitor to enter two horses in each class in his/her division and entitles him/her to ½ table for staging of entries. The purpose of the Model Horse Show is to provide an opportunity for interested 4-H members to learn about and become involved in the hobby of collecting and showing model horses. As they participate, members also learn about breeds and colors of horses, tack and equipment, performance classes, and horse shows in general. For a complete listing of eligibility requirements, rules and class list, please contact the Extension Office. Deadline to register is September 15, 2003.
